The circular economy model minimizes the consumption of raw materials, the amount of waste, and energy emissions and loss by creating a closed loop of processes. Resources are used and reused in a loop rather than being extracted, used, and then discarded. This approach gives a more efficient and effective use of available resources, and gives them value and reduces the amount of producted waste as much and as long as possible. This maximizes the product’s lifetime, leads to better utilization of resources, and thus reduces waste. Switching to the circular economy model is the official goal of the European Union. In Poland, the ministry coordinating the implementation of circular economy is the Ministry of Development and Technology.
